SEATTLE -- The Astros rotation, already dealing with a mountain of injuries, added another to the load under freak circumstances Monday at T-Mobile Park.

Right-hander Spencer Arrighetti was hit on his throwing hand by a line drive while playing catch in the outfield during batting practice ahead of the Astros’ series-opener against the Mariners. Arrighetti underwent immediate X-rays at T-Mobile Park, which revealed that the 25-year-old had suffered a broken right thumb.

The Astros already have four starting pitchers on the injured list. Lance McCullers Jr. is set to make his third rehab appearance this Saturday for Triple-A Sugar Land against Albuquerque and could be nearing a return.
